[Press release] Solidarity, the theme of the First Prize for Short Films on Social Values

Cinemanet will also present the Miquel Porter Moix, Barcelona-Valors and Rovira-Beleta awards
Barcelona, February 22, 2010 - Solidarity will be the theme of the International Section of this year's Short Film Awards of the Young Values Film Festival held in Barcelona, organized by the CinemaNet Association , in collaboration with " Som joves ".
The Young Values Film Festival is a project to promote young homeowner data filmmakers with the aim of fostering human, civic, family and educational values in film production.
The works submitted may be eligible for one of these four awards, two of national and international scope and two specific to Catalonia:
International Section of Social Values . Each edition focuses on a specific value, which this year is Solidarity . This award is open to people from Spain and any nationality or place of residence.
Rovira-Beleta Section , for short scripts with social, civic, family and educational values. Free theme. It is also open internationally and people of any nationality and place of residence can participate. This award is in its 10th Edition.
“Miquel Porter Moix” Section for Catalan Schools and Universities (in collaboration with the Catalan Federation of Cineclubs and the Associació d'Amics de Miquel Porter Moix ).
Barcelona-Valors section of social values in Barcelona, for people residing in this city
Following the selection made by the jury, the screening of the finalist scripts and the awarding of the prizes will take place on Saturday 12 June at CaixaFòrum in Barcelona.
The deadline for submitting scripts for the Rovira-Beleta award ended on December 31. Short films competing for the three remaining awards must be submitted before April 30, 2010. Although the festival languages are Spanish and Catalan, DVDs can be submitted in any language, as long as they are subtitled in Spanish, Catalan or English.
The total prize money for the awards is 4,200 euros. In addition to the prizes mentioned above, the “Audience Prize”, “Best Direction” and “Best Screenplay” awards will also be awarded, as well as other non-monetary prizes.
The Festival Director is Àlex Lora , a young director who has won numerous short film awards at many festivals, has been a finalist in the recently awarded “Gaudí” awards and has won a Fulbright scholarship to complete studies in the United States. The jury members will also be young filmmakers and film critics.

The Young Values Film Festival is a step forward in CinemaNet's activities aimed at young people. There have been nine editions of the Rovira-Beleta Prize, while the other prizes are being created this year. The Rovira-Beleta prize is for screenplays, while the “Internacional”, “Miquel Porter Moix” and “Barcelona-Valors” prizes require DVDs.
CinemaNet and Som Joves are currently developing numerous activities aimed at young people. These include a course on directing small-budget short films, a film criticism course and various cycles of film forums on topics such as human rights, love and sexuality, and others.
