One of the steps we take to configure GA4 is to create Content Groups . We can define this function as the grouping of the different categories of a website. Within the content groups we can have various points of view depending on the type of business. Let's give a couple of examples to understand different situations.

In the e-commerce sector , you can group by product category : sweatshirts, t-shirts, pants... or you can also group by page type : landing, product category, product, checkout... Steps to create Content Groups in GA4 with Page Path


To do this, we are going to work with our great friend Google Tag Manager . Although, before starting, the GA4 tag must be configured .



That said, these would be the steps:



We create a new variable.

We choose the RegEx Table variable type .

Within Input Variable, we choose the one that suits us best, for example Page Path .

In the Pattern column we add the paths without the slashes. And to include several within the same one we separate it with a vertical bar. For example: camisetas|camiseta|t-shirt.

In the Output column we write the content group without spelling mistakes: t-shirts.

We check the Set Default Value box with the value Other group.

In Advance Setting , we deselect Full Matches Only and Enable Capture Groups and Replace Functionality.
